Justin E. H. Smith is a historian and philosopher of biology (his last book is on Leibniz, Divine machines, at Princeton University Press).
Justin had a strong relationship with the Romanian space by his former wife. He married in a Romanian Orthodox Church.
In this context it is interesting to look at his recent post "Notes on Orthodox Christianity" (http://www.jehsmith.com/1/2011/08/notes-on-orthodox-christianity.html ). I was striked by this fragment of text:
"If I may attempt to distill some sort of essence out of Orthodox Christianity in just a few words, it is the variety of Christianity that still takes love and death seriously"
Enjoy !
